If your
website is important to you, you should back up your site
to protect against possible disk errors or other problems.
Freeservers cannot guarantee that your web pages will not
be lost due to some error, so we strongly reccommend that
you maintain a backup of your site.
If
you built your site on your hard drive and uploaded it to
Freeservers, you already have a backup! However, if you
are using the guestbook or the Form Emailer to collect information
on your site, you will need to back up those files.
The
best way to back up your site is by using a common FTP program.
If you do not have one, there are many FTP programs that
can be downloaded for free, such as WS FTP or CuteFTP.
To use
your FTP program, you will need the following information:
- FTP
address: your Freeservers domain
- Username:
your Freeservers domain
(the same as above)
- Password:
your Freeservers password
Once
you have logged in through FTP, just download all the files
on your site to a directory on your hard drive.
That's
it! You're backed up. If your website gets lost or corrupted,
all you have to do is log in through FTP and upload all
the files, and you'll be up and running again.
WARNING!
Do NOT back up the HTML files in your site by using "Save
As" from your browser when viewing the page. That will
save the code which inserts the banner as part of your page.
If you then upload the file, you will end up with extra
banners on your page. (You can back up the graphics by the
"Save As" method, though.)
